Jury seated in Schoharie limo crash trial

The jury has been seated in the trial of the limo company operator in the 2018 Schoharie crash. Twenty people were killed.
Hundreds of potential jurors were screened to get to the 12 main jurors and four alternates.
The man who sits before them, Nauman Hussain, is and “must be considered” innocent until and unless he is found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, Judge Peter Lynch reminded the potential jurors during the selection process.
The jurors were also reminded that if Hussain declines to testify on his own behalf, that cannot be held against him.
Hussain does not have to prove anything, the judge said. He explained that the burden of proof is entirely on the prosecution to prove Hussain is responsible for the death of 20 people in October 2018.

Defense attorney Lee Kindlon has already declared this is the longest jury selection process he’s ever experienced or heard of in his many decades of practicing law. However, he also said he’s pleased with the process.
The lengthy selection process means opening arguments likely won’t start until Monday, at the earliest.
