Police agencies across the country are facing challenges to find new officers.
As those challenges continue in Saratoga County, eight men stepped up enthusiastically on Monday morning to be sworn in.
The sheriff’s office is happy to have the new guys and eager to find more.
A couple of them are coming from other departments, one from Albany, the other from Fulton County.
However, the others are fresh-faced recruits eager to attend the academy.
They all pledged to uphold the constitution and protect the people of Saratoga County.
The department is fortunate to be able to offer some of the most competitive compensation in the area, said Undersheriff Jeff Brown, but they’re still working harder than ever to fill positions. He says they have 20 openings for deputies right now, even after these guys start on the road this winter.
The jobs offer more than just good pay, Brown said.
