Incumbent Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy is the projected winner in the Democratic primary, as he seeks another term.
McCarthy beat challenger Marion Porterfield, the Schenectady City Council president.
McCarthy will face off against Republican Matt Nelligan in the general election.
