Report: Amtrak could make big cuts to Rensselaer-New York City route

Amtrak passengers could soon see sharp cuts to service in the Northeast, particularly on the popular Rensselaer to New York City route, according to a report from the Times Union.
The House of Representatives proposes spending reductions on train service.
One key congressional subcommittee called much of Amtrak’s spending “wasteful” according to summaries.
Members of a House Transportation Subcommittee recommended an allocation of $875 million last week for Amtrak in 2024 – down from the nearly $2.5 billion it currently receives.
Amtrak has said it needs at least $2.66 billion to meet basic operational needs.
The company has asked for $3.65 billion in funds for the upcoming fiscal year.
