Bishop Hubbard’s wife identified
WNYT has learned the identity of the woman who married Bishop Emeritus Howard Hubbard last month.
Jennifer (Barrie) Hubbard married the longest-serving bishop in the history of the Albany Diocese in a civil ceremony.
“I have fallen in love with a wonderful woman who has helped and cared for me and who believes in me,” Hubbard said in a statement last month. “She has been a loving and supportive companion on this journey.”
Last year, Hubbard, who was a bishop for 46 years, asked the Vatican to be relieved of his priestly obligations.
The Vatican denied his request, encouraging him to wait until civil lawsuits related to alleged sexual abuse against him had been resolved.
Hubbard died Saturday after suffering a stroke.
He was 84.
