Troy man faces weapon, drug charges after stop
ALBANY – Police arrested a Troy man Monday on weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop on Orange Street.
Around 7 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on the 300 block of Orange Street in reference to a stolen vehicle investigation. Officers discovered that the driver, 34-year-old Devere Williams, was in possession of a loaded handgun, according to a news release.
In addition, he had cocaine in his possession.
Williams was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail.
Williams was sentenced in 2019 to 3 years in prison for criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the state inmate database. He was released to parole in February 2021.
