Twelve jurors were seated Monday in the trial of 42-year-old Jacob Klein, the man charged in a gruesome murder in New Scotland. Two alternate jurors were seated as well.
Two additional alternate jurors are expected to be seated Tuesday.
Klein, who is representing himself, is facing a second degree murder charge for allegedly killing 35-year-old Philip Rabadi at his New Scotland home in April of last year.
Klein had a past relationship with Rabadi’s wife, according to investigators.
Klein wore a gray suit Monday and will have two attorneys seated beside him during the trial to serve him in advisory role, including Manhattan-based attorney Mark Bederow, who has handled his case from the beginning, along with Manhattan-based attorney Daniel Bibb.
Klein consulted often with his legal advisors, apparently asking for help with selecting the jurors.
The case is being prosecuted by Albany County Assistant District Attorneys Cheryl Fowler and Jessica Blain-Lewis.
Members of the Rabadi family were in court for jury selection Monday.
The Rabadi family has honored Philip’s memory by giving back to the community in his honor. The nonprofit they created, Phil with Love, has raised more than $200,000 to support local students, medical research and domestic violence groups, along with supporting some of Rabadi’s interests.
