Rensselaer County continue to enforce order to block migrants from housing

Rensselaer County officials say they are going to continue to enforce an emergency order on migrants that stops them from getting housing.

This comes as New York City is issuing housing vouchers to help migrants find homes outside of the city.

County Executive Steve McLaughlin said he intends to keep the order from earlier this year in place. The policy prohibits businesses from entering contracts to house migrants. McLaughlin was critical of New York City Mayor Eric Adams and said he is looking at taking legal action.  

“Communities across the state and the nation are waking up to the fact that Adams, (Gov. Kathy) Hochul and Biden have no solutions to this problem, and only want to spread the disaster around. The way to resolve this issue is to close the borders, screen anyone trying to enter our country, and to put our people first when it comes to services and assistance,” McLaughlin said in a news release.
