Following a one-on-one NewsChannel 13 sit down with Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins on crime in the city – the chief and Mayor Kathy Sheehan held a news conference on Wednesday morning, discussing shooting statistics in the city when compared to this time last year.
From January through September, violent crimes have been down 6% compared to last year.
Hawkins believes groups coming together has been the key.
“We’re committed to – I’ve said before – making this the safest major city in this country,” Hawkins said. “We have a blueprint for it, we have a template, we know what it takes, and we see what the results when we work as a team, when we work as a community.”
