Trial for man accused of killing Kaylin Gillis set for Jan. 8
The trial for the man accused of shooting and killing Kaylin Gillis in his driveway last April is scheduled for Jan. 8.
Kevin Monahan is charged with second-degree murder in the death of the 20-year-old Schuylerville woman on April 15. She was a passenger in a vehicle that had gotten lost on the way to a friend’s house and turned around in Monahan’s driveway in Hebron.
The trial was originally set to begin Monday, October 30. However, Judge Adam Michelini agreed to an extension because both the prosecutors and defense needed additional time to exchange information and analyze evidence.
Defense attorney Arthur Frost told NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland last week that they plan to argue that their client felt threatened by the car pulling into his driveway. Monahan fired a warning shot up in the air to scare them away. He did not intend to pull the trigger for a second shot, which fatally struck Gillis, but his finger slipped.
The trial is expected to last about two weeks and possibly longer.
