Two Schenectady families have been forced out of their home by a fire.

It happened Sunday morning on Van Vranken Avenue.

Everyone got out safely, said the fire chief, but the home has significant fire and water damage.

The Red Cross is helping six adults and two children, they said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
