Shooting victim’s mother describes adjustment when daughter came out
Ahsid Hemingway-Powell’s mother said it was a period of adjustment when her daughter came out.
“It took me awhile to come around, a couple months,” said Jackie Powell.
Hemingway-Powell was living her life as a transgender woman and was planning to transition. She was killed in May 2022 by Iaier Robinson, who was convicted of second-degree murder two weeks ago.
Powell has started a foundation in her daughter’s memory seeking understanding and support for transgender women.
