Special session underway on concealed carry laws

ALBANY – A special session was underway at the state Capitol Thursday evening, with lawmakers ready to pass new bans on carrying guns into designated places.

This comes after the Supreme Court ruling that struck down New York’s concealed carry law.

Senate and Assembly Democrats were still reviewing the bill on Thursday evening. Once the Democrats are done reviewing the bill, they will then present the bill to the Republicans.

Republican Assemblyman Chris Tague says he is upset because he believes Democrats and Gov. Hochul have not been transparent in the process. He says he needs time to review the bill before he votes on it.

Hochul is proposing legislation that will expand restrictions in areas she calls “sensitive locations.” This includes federal, state, local government buildings, health and medical facilities along with places where children gather.

There’s no word yet on when the bill will be presented or when the vote will take place.
