Calls spike to poison control centers due to weight-loss drug
Weight-lose drug semaglutide causes spike in poison center calls
Poison centers across the country are seeking a spike in calls over a weight-loss drug.
The calls are related to accidental overdoses of the popular drug semaglutide. Some people have needed to be hospitalized for nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
In most cases, a person accidentally took a double dose or the wrong dose, doctors said.
From January through November, America’s poison centers have reported 3,000 calls involving semaglutide. That is a 1,500% increase since 2019.
