New $25 million grant to help volunteer fire departments
A new round of grants will help volunteer fire departments across the state.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that $25 million in capital grants will be made available to help departments upgrade their facilities and equipment.
It’s all part of Hochul’s effort to strengthen New York’s volunteer fire services.
The big objectives include making sure the fire station buildings are safe and up to code, upgrading decontamination equipment and supplies and enhancing local, county, and statewide response efforts through consolidation of fire service resources.
“The volunteer firefighters of New York are selfless public servants who put their lives on the line to keep their communities safe,” Hochul said in a statement. “This funding will go a long way in reminding those who continue to serve that we will always support them in any and every way we can.”
The governor made $10 million available last month to offset the cost of training courses.
