Wet conditions may have contributed to a number of horse injuries at the Saratoga Race Course during last summer’s meet, according to a new report.
Fourteen horses died at the track last year. Thirteen of them died while racing or training. One died in a barn.
The report from the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority released Monday also found exercise history is a factor, but found no evidence of violations of the group’s rules.
“To prevent serious injuries before they happen, NYRA is embracing science and technology to provide veterinarians and trainers with the tools necessary to identify underlying conditions and further reduce the frequency of equine injuries,” NYRA said in a statement.
