Albany County leaders announce new school bus safety campaign
Leaders in Albany County met Monday morning to discuss a concerning trend in school bus safety. The county introduced the School Bus Safety Program in 2022 with stop-arm cameras that recorded drivers who passed illegally. The numbers have not gotten any better since then, according to experts.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced a media campaign Monday morning, which will have messaging at Crossgates Mall and Colonie Center.
“It’s sad that no matter how much we’re pushing back out, that this still continues to rise, which is so scary,” McCoy said. “We’ve been trying to be creative with the way we’ve been doing different announcements and getting it out there to the community.”
New York state estimates 50,000 drivers illegally pass stopped school buses statewide each school day.
