Wayward moose gains popularity in East Greenbush

Resident provides update on moose sighting

A resident in East Greenbush has provided an update about the moose sighting he has seen in his neighborhood.

A moose that has become very popular around East Greenbush and Troy is still on the loose. It has now been spotted several times.

A recent 13-second video of the moose was posted on Instagram by Josh Whelan. The moose is seen in the video running along a hill until he gets to the other side. It looks like it’s by a road because cars are driving by.

Whelan said it was quite the wild sight near his house. He spotted the moose with his wife and newborn baby close by.

“My first thought was ‘wow, that’s a really big deer.’ And literally, that was my first thought for like 10 seconds,” he said.

He added that it was difficult to process what he was seeing at first. Then, he got out his camera and recorded it because he didn’t think anyone would believe him.

It appears that same moose was spotted the weekend of April 26 near Frear Park in Troy.

One man caught a glimpse of the moose on his phone. The moose was nearly as tall as the stop sign.

NewsChannel 13 contacted East Greenbush Police to ask if anyone has called about more moose sightings, or if they’re aware of it. We have not heard back yet.

Police had posted about the moose sightings happening last month in East Greenbush, near Patroon Lane.

If you see a moose, police suggest not interacting with it. That includes feeding, petting or even taking selfies with it.

Moose are wild animals.
