Schenectady County woman admits to role in check cashing scheme

A Schenectady County woman faces up to 15 years in prison after admitting to her role in a check cashing scheme.

Elizabeth Dolder, 51, of Delanson, pleaded on Thursday in Albany County Court to six counts of a 34-count indictment, including scheme to defraud, identity theft, grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Dolder was arrested last year after police said she was cashing forged checks at financial institutions in Colonie, Guilderland and Albany from August through October, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

She also used a counterfeit Iowa driver’s license in one of the transactions.

The checks totaled nearly $10,000.

Dolder admitted to working with others in the scheme. The investigation determined that Dolder and an associate stole checks from various mailboxes, washed those checks, increased the amounts and then made the checks payable to either themselves or others, investigators said.

Dolder is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 22.
