Big Bend Preserve at Moreau Lake State Park now open
The Big Bend Preserve at Moreau Lake State Park is now open for people to visit.
The preserve adds 860 acres to the park, which is about the size of Central Park. It now makes it one of the 10 largest parks in the state system, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The preserve will provide recreational activities for visitors and valuable habitats for native species.
The land was originally used for logging and it was acquired by the parks system in collaboration with the Open Space Institute. They have worked to remove invasive plants and trees, remove deteriorating fencing and construct trails.
Over 100 bird species have been documented at the site.
