Broadalbin man charged with arson in fires
A Broadalbin man intentionally set three fires in Fulton County on Thursday, investigators said.
Leon G. Nadeau, 39, allegedly set the fires in the area of North Main Street and Railroad Avenue.
All of the fires happened in a 48-hour period. The Broadalbin-Kenneyetto Fire Company and bystanders put out the fires. State Police said Nadeau allegedly caused damage to multiple buildings and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
No injuries were reported as a result of these crimes.
Police found Nadeau nearby and arrested him. He was charged with three counts of arson.
Nadeau also may be connected to other fires.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has said there is a person of interest in custody relating to a fire at a pole with tires on it at Broadalbin Adirondack County Market and a warehouse on Railroad Street. The person of interest is also accused of throwing a brick thrown a window late Wednesday at Broadalbin Baptist Church, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
Fulton County District Attorney Michael Poulin will make a determination later whether these will be treated as hate crimes.
The investigation is ongoing.
