FBI investigating white powdery substance sent to state Board of Elections

The New York State Board of Elections office in Albany was evacuated Tuesday after they received mail with a white powdery substance,

The New York State Board of Elections said that around 3 p.m. they received mail at their Albany office at 40 North Pearl St. that contained a suspicious substance.

State elections officials immediately contacted law enforcement and temporarily evacuated the area.  

No employees had any medical issues, State Police said. Police have turned over the investigation to the FBI.

The Board of Elections said it appears to be part of a pattern of potentially threatening mail being sent to election offices across the country.
