Ballston Spa man convicted of manslaughter in killing of neighbor

A Ballston Spa man was found guilty Thursday of beating his neighbor to death with a baseball bat.

After a nearly two-week trial, Pharrin Greene was convicted in Saratoga County Court of manslaughter in the death of Bernard Rogers in Ballston Spa on March 12, 2022.

Greene broke down the front door of his downstairs neighbor, Bernard Rodgers, and entered his apartment, prosecutors said. He then struck him multiple times with a baseball bat and caused severe head injuries.

Rogers died over a year later.

Greene was originally charged with assault, but those charges were upgraded after the death.

In addition to manslaughter, Greene also was convicted of first-degree assault, two counts of burglary and criminal mischief.

Greene faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced on Dec. 5.

Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen thanked everyone who helped get this conviction.

“This verdict would not have been possible without the rapid response of the Ballston Spa Police Department and their joint investigation with the New York State Police. Justice came today for the family and friends of Bernard Rodgers who have been waiting two-and-a-half years for this outcome.”
