Algae bloom has been found in Pontoosuc Lake in Pittsfield.

A public health advisory is being issued. It warns against swimming in the water and swallowing the water.

It also tells people to keep animals away, and to rinse off after contact with the water.
Blue-green algae occurs naturally in lakes and ponds throughout Massachusetts.

However, warmer water temperatures and high nutrient concentrations may induce a rapid increase in their abundance.
