Two beloved local businesses announce closures

Two local businesses loved by the community have announced they’re closing: Tacos, Tequila & Tattoos on Fourth Street and The Whiskey Pickle on Fulton Street.

Both of the owners citing financial reasons for their closures.

“The prices of food, alcohol has gone way up, and rent isn’t coming down so it’s like hard to sustain,” Jennyfur Spaulding at Tacos, Tequila & Tattoos said.

Spaulding and her business partner, Kareem Nejame said they did everything to keep the lights on, but ultimately, they made the decision to shut down.

“It was tough to get to it,” Nejame said. “The last 12-15 months we saw a decline. Just in the amount of people that were just out and looking for a sit-down dining experience.”

The last dinner service is Saturday, October 12.

As for The Whiskey Pickle, the local bar did not give any notice before shutting down.

The owners posted on Facebook last week to thank its customers for their support. The owners noted they spent every dollar they had on the bar, but in the end it wasn’t enough.
