Man gets 20 years to life in prison for killing brother-in-law

An Albany man was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years to life in prison for killing his brother-in-law. Ashley Heshmat, 45, fatally stabbed Justin Bishop on Jan. 14, 2024 in the home they shared on Rose Court. The two were roommates. Bishop was a beloved nurse at St. Peter's Hospital for 18 years, but had left the hospital before his death.

An Albany man was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years to life in prison for killing his brother-in-law.

Ashley Heshmat, 45, fatally stabbed Justin Bishop on Jan. 14, 2024 in the home they shared on Rose Court. The two were roommates.

Bishop was a beloved nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital for 18 years, but had left the hospital before his death.

After the killing, Heshmat dumped a car and Bishop’s cell phone at several locations in Albany, according to police.

Heshmat had pleaded guilty in August.
