New info sheds light on Pittsfield murder trial defense

We're getting a clear look at the strategy both the prosecution and defense will use in the trial of Steven Malloy, a Massachusetts man accused of murdering someone from Pittsfield.

The attorney representing the Massachusetts man accused of killing a Pittsfield resident plans is arguing that the victim died by suicide.

Steven Malloy is charged with murder for allegedly shooting Joseph Fillio in the head in 2021. Prosecutors said that shooting was carried out at point-blank range, NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Berkshire Eagle reported.

However, Malloy’s attorneys claim Malloy pulled his gun out while drinking with others, including Fillio.

The defense says Fillio had tried to commit suicide months before his death.
