STS Steel in Schenectady is celebrating four decades in business.

The company celebrated its 40th anniversary recently with a “Steel Day” open house and tours by officials and dozens of students interested in the trades.

Partners Glenn Tabolt and Jim Stori founded the company in 1984 and soon moved it to its current location – in the last remaining building of the American Locomotive Company, which went out of business in the 1960s.

They fabricate components for bridges, buildings, highways and more throughout the nation and the world.

“Steel Day” showcased the company and encouraged students to seek careers in the steel industry, one of the trades that very much are seeking qualified, energetic workers for good-paying jobs.

Even Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy tried his hand at some welding.
