State legislators are applauding Albany County for taking a step forward for a new National Guard headquarters.

The county legislature just deemed the former Heritage Park at 770 Albany Shaker Road as “no longer necessary for public use.”

The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs plans to develop this site as the new headquarters, according to the Albany County Executive’s Office.

The planned headquarters would serve the New York Army National Guard 42nd Infantry Division.
