Clifton Park mother, children cope with sudden death of father
Their father suffered a massive heart attack and died despite their efforts to save him.
A widow and young mother from Clifton Park are sharing their tragic story for an episode of the Up Beat podcast from Kelly’s Angels, hoping their story will help others who are grieving.
The family says Mike Tompkins could light up a room. He loved to learn, and he loved to teach others. Most of all, he loved his wife, Chrissy, and their two boys, Cole and Chase.
The boys were just ten and six when Mike suffered a heart attack at their Clifton Park home.
“He went unconscious. I got him on the ground. I called 911 and I tried to resuscitate him, probably for about 7 minutes, maybe longer, until the paramedics arrived. And my boys were right there,” Chrissy Cole said.
Not only were they right there, but they helped, desperately trying to save their father’s life.
Now 12 and soon-to-be 8, the Tompkins boys and their mom are doing okay.
