Investigators confirmed that the two people charged with using a Connecticut homicide victim’s credit card in Rensselaer are suspects in the murder.

Police in Connecticut tell NewsChannel 13 that 24-year-old Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias and 22-year-old Moises Alejandro Candollo-Urbaneja are considered suspects in the killing of a 59-year-old man in Stamford, Connecticut.

Rensselaer Police found the two suspects on Thursday on Elm Street one block from the Amtrak train station. They are accused of using the stolen card there.  They also had items belonging to the murder victim, police say.

Both suspects are in the country illegally are believed to affiliated with a Venezuelan gang.

Rensselaer Police Chief Warren Famiglietti said that Connecticut detectives were tracking use of the credit card. They contacted his department around 3:13 p.m. on Thursday. Within 5 minutes of that call, officers found the two suspects on Elm Street one block from the Amtrak train station and began interviewing them.

Rensselaer Police determined the gang connection because of their tattoos and conversations with federal investigation. 

When asked in court, Famiglietti said Galindez-Trias said she was fearful of the Tren de Aragua gang.

Both suspects are being held in Rensselaer County Jail and waiting to be picked up by Stamford, Police.

Famiglietti said he believes that the suspects are in a relationship. A 3-year-old and 1-year-old found with the couple are the woman’s children. The male suspect is not the father.

The two children are in the custody of Rensselaer County Child Protective Services.
