Someone on a walk Sunday afternoon called police to report a human skull found in Burden Pond Preserve. That’s around Mill Street and Campbell Avenue.

They are human bones, police said. It’s still unclear at this point how long the bones have been there and whether they are of an adult or child, male or female.

The location is very close to an area searched in 2022 in connection with the search for Jaliek Rainwalker, a 12-year-old boy who went missing back in 2007. Rainwalker was from Greenwich in Washington County, and Washington County District Attorney Tony Jordan was among the people at the search site on Monday afternoon.

Troy Police set up what looked like a tent along the shoreline. They were joined by the State Police and the Rensselaer County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Delaware Avenue at Mill Street is shut down to traffic while the investigation continues.
