Police: Two Columbia County women neglected dozens of cats
Two Columbia County women are accused of neglecting 40 cats.
New York State Police received a tip about animal abuse in the town of Hillsdale. Jennifer Rossi, 45, and Peggy Card, 45 allegedly did not provide sustenance and care for the animals.
Police worked in conjunction with the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, Animal Nation Incorporated and the town of Hillsdale Building Department on the investigation.
Animal Nation, based in Westchester, is caring for the cats. Two of the felines were sent to a local veterinarian because of their poor condition and were pronounced dead.
Rossi and Card were charged on Oct. 18 with 40 misdemeanor counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance. They were issued appearance tickets and are due in Hillsdale Town Court on Nov. 20.
