Albany welcomes big tattoo expo for first time

A tattoo expo is being held at the Albany Capital Center this weekend.

A large tattoo convention is being held in Albany this weekend.

The expo is called Dead Man’s Hand. It’s the first time an expo like this has come to the capital city.

This expo is finally able to happen now that Albany city codes have been changed. It was updated last year because it was outdated. The old policy was from 1999, and tattoo artists had to have physical sinks for sanitation, which is not realistic for a weekend convention.

The new policy lets artists use antiseptic wipes or warm water and soap.

The old regulations were handled by people who do not understand what happens at a tattoo shop, many artists said.

With 75 vendors, there’s a lot to choose from. A lot of those vendors are local.

You can get tattoos and piercings, and buy t-shirts and sweaters.

Hear one of the attendees discuss how he is happy an expo like this has finally come to Albany, by watching the video of Tessa Bentulans story.
