History was made in some New York state races. That includes the State Assembly race in the 109th Assembly District, where Gabriella Romero is now the assemblywoman-elect.

The open seat was vacated by Pat Fahy, who ran for and won the 46th State Senate District.

Fahy easily won against Republican Alicia Purdy, taking a whopping 72% of the vote.

It’s the first time a person of Hispanic heritage is holding this seat. In fact, Romero is only the second Hispanic person in the New York State Legislature in all of Upstate New York. The other member is Jonathan Rivera, who represents the Buffalo area.
