Nurses union responds to Albany Med lawsuit

Albany Med has filed a lawsuit, alleging trademark infringement. The lawsuit comes as the nurses union and hospital are in the middle of contract negotiations.

Albany Medical Center has filed a lawsuit against the New York State Nurses Association, alleging trademark infringement.

The lawsuit comes as the nurses’ union and hospital are in the middle of contract negotiations.

The hospital says it has trademarks on the titles “Albany Med” and “Albany Medical Center.”
Albany Medical Center is alleging the Nurses Association is using the hospital’s trademarked phrase

“Albany Med Quality Care” as the domain name for the nurses’ website.

The union released this statement to NewsChannel 13:

“Albany Med executives are attempting to avoid accountability for the staffing crisis at the hospital and silence its most vocal patient advocates–NYSNA nurses. This latest legal maneuver is part of that pattern. Visit albanymedqualitycare.org to see the truth that hospital leadership is trying to hide.

“If Albany Med is concerned about potential damage to its reputation, it should follow the law instead of flaunting it. We’re asking Albany Med to follow the safe staffing law, respect labor law, and stop retaliating against patient advocates. Albany Med should invest in safe patient care, not lawsuits.”
