Schenectady leaders cut the ribbon Wednesday on the new Kings Road bridge.

The bridge links Schenectady with the town of Rotterdam. It features a concrete sidewalk, bike shoulders and new lighting.

The $5.3 million project has been in the works for six years. The COVID-19 pandemic and some right-of-way takings delayed the project.

Winn Construction began the project this past spring so it could be done in one continuous fashion.

Mayor Gary McCarthy said people have been very understanding.

“Generally, people are very cooperative. They understood the inconvenience but the fiscal implications and the timeline of being able to close the bridge, get it done, get it back open,” he said.
