Suspect in Vermont officer shooting located and arrested

Suspect in VSP officer shooting has been located and arrested

The suspect accused of shooting a police officer in Vermont is now in police custody.

Vermont State Police say they have arrested 38-year-old Scott Mason around 2 a.m. Sunday.


Mason is accused of shooting Captain Jason Gray from the St. Johnsbury Police Department on Friday afternoon.


Captain Gray is seriously injured, but currently in stable condition.


Police obtained a search warrant and Mason was found in a house on Portland Street, right next door to where the shooting happened.


He is now behind bars facing serious charges including attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resulting in serious injury.

Mason is also facing other unrelated charges.
