Troy man charged in COVID benefits fraud
A Troy man is accused of stealing an identity to obtain more than $29,000 in COVID benefits.
Daion Morris, 32, was arraigned Thursday on an indictment charging him with wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
Morris allegedly used a stolen identity to create an unemployment insurance claim in September 2020. He recertified that claim through March 2021, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Morris was released pending trial.
