State attorney general secures $4.4M in unclaimed gift card funds
Nearly $4.4 million has been secured by the state attorney general’s office over unclaimed gift card funds.
According to Attorney General Letitia James, the gift card company Card Compliant, LLC helped fashion retailer H&M keep millions of dollars in New Yorkers’ unused gift card funds.
By law, these unused balances were supposed to be available to claim through the Office of Unclaimed Funds.
James says the two companies knowingly broke the law and lied about it in an effort to line their own pockets.
