Two passengers, Steven Strunk, 54, and April Strunk, 52, were also on board.

The plane was on its way from South Carolina to Bennington, Vermont when the pilot tried landing at Albany International Airport due to mechanical issues. However, he didn’t make it and landed on the highway instead.

No one was hurt.

NewsChannel 13 spoke with both Dave Zimmerman and Jeremy Benassi from Robert’s Towing Company towed the plane off the highway.

“It’s really just kind of extraordinary call for us. It’s not an everyday thing we go out and do,” Benassi said.

Both Zimmerman and Benassi had to use a tow truck with a crane on it to remove the plane from I-87.

Part of the road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

The plane is registered to a flight training school in Winnsboro, South Carolina, according to State Police.

State Police and the FAA are investigating.
