Rotterdam town board member pleads not guilty to stealing election mailers

The Rotterdam Town Board member accused of stealing his opponent's campaign mailer from someone's mailbox pleaded not guilty in court on Monday morning.

The Rotterdam Town Board member accused of stealing mail while running for state Assembly pleaded not guilty on Monday.

Joe Mastroianni, a Republican, was arraigned in Schenectady City Court on a charge of petit larceny.

Mastroianni appeared to be taking a political mailer from a Rotterdam home on a Ring doorbell camera video last October.

Mastroianni lost the election to Democratic Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.

Mastroianni’s case was transferred from Rotterdam Town Court after both justices recused themselves.

A conference in the case has been scheduled for Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. Mastroianni is not required to be there for that appearance.
