Wreckage of a barn fire at Samascott Orchards in Kinderhook was still smoldering on Wednesday, as firefighters worked to put out hot spots.
The devastating fire destroyed a building at Samascott Orchards in Kinderhook on Tuesday
Thankfully, crews were able to protect nearby buildings.
The call came in around 7 p.m. Tuesday, and firefighters worked for hours in the frigid cold.
The barn housed vehicles, an office, equipment, and lots of fruit, firefighters said.
Winds around 30 to 40 mile per hour fueled the fire and drove embers maybe a mile into the village, NewsChannel 13 learned on Tuesday. The fire was also dangerous because of the propane tanks and an ammonia tank inside, investigators said.
Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the greenhouse right next to it, as well as a newer barn that houses the cider press.
Thankfully, there were no injuries.
