Department: Inmate assaults correction officer at Coxsackie prison
Man accused of punching cutting correction officer at Coxscakie Correctional Facility.
Police are investigating after a correction officer was allegedly assaulted by an inmate in Greene County.
The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision told NewsChannel 13 that it happened on Monday at Coxsackie Correctional Facility.
The inmate punched the correction officer several times, and the inmate allegedly cut the officer’s head and face with a sharp object five times, according to DOCCS.
The staff sprayed the inmate with pepper spray and restrained him, DOCCS said. Three correction officers were treated at nearby medical centers. One of the three returned to duty that same day.
The investigation is ongoing.
