Hockey game honors late Pittsfield Police Officer

Michael J. Silver passed away unexpectedly in October.

Michael J. Silver passed away in October 2024 after being a police officer in Berkshire County for 16 years.

Officer Silver joined the Pittsfield Police Officer in 2008, before joining the Lee Police Department in 2015. Silver was then a member of the Berkshire County Special Response team beginning in 2016 and was an officer with the Pittsfield Police Department for a second time at the time of his death.

In Sheffield M.A. Saturday a hockey game at the Berkshire School honored the late police officer.

At the game the Berkshire County Law Enforcement team face off against the Boston Bruins alumni.

Hundreds attended the game will all proceeds from tickets benefiting the Silver Family, a Pugzee Farm initiative to develop local mental health and wellness services for members of the Berkshire County Law Enforcement community, and the Warrior for Life Fund.

Robin McGraw is a Berkshire School Alum and Philanthropist organized the event.

“So other people will make donations today during the game and after the game. But we’ll probably be at least 60 grand this year,” McGraw said.

The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Timothy J. Shugrue tells NewsChannel 13 “It is important for everybody. Just to make awareness regarding mental health issues and the stress that these people are underneath. These officers on a daily basis because they’re dealing with trauma all the time.”
