MOREAU – There was a protest Friday over a proposed fertilizer plant in the town of Moreau. The facility would convert wood waste and human waste into carbon-rich fertilizer.
The plant would be built in the Moreau Industrial Park, but no plans have been approved yet.
The business that wants to construct the plant is Saratoga Biochar Solutions. Its mission is to process 15% of the state’s sewage and convert it into fertilizer.
A group called Not Moreau says the process to make the fertilizer creates chemicals that can be harmful to your health – including PFAs and PFOAs.
An organizer with Not Moreau says not a lot of residents in the area know about this. That’s why they are there – to get the word out.
However, on Saratoga Biochar Solutions website, it says their process to create fertilizer does destroy PFAs and other contaminants.
NewsChannel 13 reached out to Saratoga Biochar Solutions for comment. As of late Friday afternoon, we hadn’t heard back.
