Suspended police chief has collected over $50k since arrest

Suspended Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief Robert Danko has collected over $50k since arrest

A Washington County police chief has now collected about $50,000 in salary, despite being off the job since July.

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief Robert Danko was suspended after being arrested in a domestic-related incident. Police said he held a woman against her will.

Danko pleaded guilty last November to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct. However, after his arrest, a risk protection order was signed in July 2024, which prevents him from buying, possessing or carrying a gun until July 2025.

NewsChannel 13 filed a Freedom of Information Law request for payroll records, which show that Danko earned about $45,000 from July 1 through Feb. 13. He also gets taxpayer-paid health insurance and retirement benefits. The costs are split between Cambridge and Greenwich.

As of last week, Mayor Carman Bogle said there was no change to his job status.

NewsChannel 13 has reached out to the mayor for an update, and we will let you know when we hear back.
