Some lawmakers and members of the community are calling on Gov. Hochul to sign the "Clean Water Bill."
The gathered at the state Capitol Thursday.
Water quality has been a big issue for the Capital Region. The bill, which passed both the New York State Senate and Assembly, would require statewide testing for 40 toxic chemicals.
"If we can put a spaceship on Mars and operate here on Earth with no problems, yet we can’t take care of our waterways. We can’t take care of our environment so our children and their children, and businesses can expand and leave the environment better than we found it," Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said.
Last month marked the fifth anniversary of the Water Quality and Contamination hearing held by the legislature in response to the water crises in Hoosick Falls.
