McCoy: Albany soccer stadium could open in June 2026

A plan to bring a major soccer stadium to Albany is moving forward.

The goal is to play the first game in June 2026, County Executive Dan McCoy told NewsChannel 13 on Tuesday.

News of the plan to bring an MLS NEXT Pro franchise to the area and redevelop Liberty Park caused a strong reaction last month.

Local developer Jeff Buell and entrepreneur Ed Mitzen are backers of the project.
