Albany coat project deemed big success for kids in need

City leaders in Albany announced the success of its Cash for Coats program.

City leaders in Albany announced the success of its Cash for Coats program on Monday.

The city collected donations for the 17th annual drive throughout October and November.

There was $35,000 raised this year. That money went to brand-new winter apparel for children in eight schools in Albany.

“We know that our weather can change at the drop of a hat, and so we’re just so glad for this partnership and to have these critical resources deployed to our kids,” Chief City Auditor Dr. Dorcey L. Applyrs said.

Donations are still being accepted, organizers said. The plan is to provide each school within the city of Albany with the winter basics that every child needs.
